How to plan Affordable Family Vacations
Tips on Planning Affordable Family Vacations
So, you know you have a few weeks vacation. You've saved up and you're ready to book for great family summer vacations.
But, making sure a family vacation is affordable can be a trial and a half all its own. So when you start looking at those family vacations, make sure you have two things in mind, as I always do.
One, make sure you have a specific amount of money set aside for the vacation "budget", because you really want to have affordable family vacations in style.
And two, you want to make sure that you have a location in mind that will work for your whole family.
Once you have those two ideas in mind, the next trick is figuring out how to make things work for that vacation you want. Planning a family vacation can actually be a great fun too!
First of all; location, location, location. Whatever your location is for your vacation, make sure you know that your whole family will enjoy it.
As much as my husband might like going to Las Vegas, it isn't our top travel destination when we have our children.
So, places like theme parks and resorts tend to be at the top of the list when it comes to vacations, but just remember that many of those are going to be quite costly.
You don't just pay for admission, you also pay for food, hotel, transportation and other ways to keep your kids occupied during the trip.
Thats why we also suggest a good vacation club membership which can give you plenty of choices.
(But you really got to choose your vacation club membership properly and you are in for a lifetime of affordable family vacations!)
If you don't want to spend a great deal of money on travel expenses, the first solution is to pick a travel destination that is pretty close to you, so you don't have to worry about a hotel.
You will realise that your only expenses will involve transportation and activities that you will probably find more affordable.
As long as there are activities everyone will enjoy, then your trip will be fantastic.
The next thing is your timing. So many people like to take their trips out to Disneyworld or a major theme park during the summer, which, obviously, is their peak time.
Not only can that be incredibly far away depending on where you live, but by going during the busy season, the park will be crowded and probably a little messy.
You can almost guarantee admission and hotel prices will be higher too. Do check out our Affordable Disney Family Vacations guide.
Look to the off season for your affordable family vacations.
If you know you can take two weeks off in January for your vacation and don't mind pulling your children out of school, then you can visit somewhere like Disney World, where the weather always tends to be nice, but most people are still not going to be taking their vacations.
Sometimes, you'll find that having affordable family vacations can be as simple as taking a week off of work, and if your family likes roughing it, take a big couple of tents and go camp out.
Or, a simple picnic will bring a lot of relaxation to your family's life.
